Since our founding in 1959, we have provided a diverse community of students with access to a high-quality, research-intensive university committed to enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve.
A Diverse Campus in a Multicultural City
York University’s Community Connects to the Cities That Surround It.
Located in the heart of the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area (GTHA), you’ll study at one of our two vibrant campuses. Our Markham campus will be opening in 2023.

Am I a Mature Student?
The definition of a mature student can vary widely depending on self-identification, academic background and, of course, age. At York, we consider a mature student to be someone who:
- is at least 20 years old by the end of the calendar year of admission to the University; or
- has been out of full-time high-school studies for at least two years or has returned to upgrade after a two-year absence; or
- has attempted less than one full year of studies at an accredited university or college;
AND
- has demonstrated potential for success through academic, professional or volunteer activities and other accomplishments.

Boozhoo, She:kon, Tunngasugit, Tawnshi, Kwe, Welcome!
We recognize that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships with the territories upon which York University campuses are located that precede the establishment of York University.
York University acknowledges its presence on the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. The area known as Tkaronto has been care taken by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat. It is now home to many First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities.
The Aboriginal Student Association at York (ASAY)
ASAY is a student-run organization that supports First Nations (status and non-status), Inuit and Métis students and their interests at York. ASAY organizes regular programming along with the Centre for Aboriginal Student Services to supplement the cultural and academic experience at York.
I think what stands out the most about York is the fact that, as a community, it has this immense potential to make anyone and everyone feel at home. I remember when I first arrived, I felt as though I was meant to be here, that I BELONG HERE and that feeling has never changed.”
