In the Classroom/Lab

Research at York (RAY) Program:

Participate in university research projects with faculty members and peers, while earning a competitive wage. Previous opportunities have included behavioural coding and transcript analysis for psychotherapy research, collecting data on stars in the York University Observatory and classifying materials at the Archives of Ontario.

In the Community

Work With a Local Community Partner:

Conduct research, engage in community service or manage an off-campus project. Psychology students have worked with community partners, such as the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health, to address needs in health and social psychology.

Work/Study Program:

Benefit from part-time, on-campus employment opportunities that enable eligible undergraduate student employees to contribute to the York community while gaining valuable experiential on-the-job training, guidance and mentorship from staff, faculty and their peers.

Leadership, Engagement & Ambassadorship Program (LEAP):

Enhance your student experience with paid, part-time employment that allows eligible undergraduate students to develop skills such as leadership, peer mentoring and peer support within the University setting while learning about the University as a whole.

Becoming YU:

Work/Study or LEAP positions are also a part of Becoming YU – a program that supports you in setting goals, identifying skills you want to develop, as well as reflecting on, and articulating, your experiences with a dedicated coach. Work/Study, RAY and LEAP opportunities are posted on the Experience York website. Once you are a registered student, you will need to fill out the Student Financial Profile to apply for them.

In the Workplace

Placements, Fieldwork and Practica:

Apply theories and concepts from your course work in a practice-based work environment while earning course credit. Examples include: art tour guide in Italy and a marketing officer for a non-governmental organization (NGO) in South Africa. A few of our programs offering placements include: Business, Education, Nursing, Science, Social Work and Osgoode Hall Law School.

Paid Internships:

Develop skills through hands-on, fulltime, work experience in your field (third year and up). Internships are available in the following programs:

Co-op Programs

Alternate your academic terms with paid, supervised full-time work experience (second year and up). Past experiences have included developing app technology and prototyping assistive medical devices.

In the World

Internationalize Your Degree

Gain international experience, learn a new language and earn an International Bachelor of Arts (iBA), International Bachelor of Business Administration (iBBA) or International Bachelor of Science (iBSc) through one of our 30+ programs.

Global Internships

Develop a global skill set by working abroad. Opportunities range from the Canadian embassy in Madrid to a refugee camp in Kenya. Each placement comes with $3,000 to off set costs.

Spend your summer studying a York faculty-led course like those offered in our Las Nubes EcoCampus in Costa Rica, learn business at Emlyon Business School in France, or participate in a summer school or research placement at a partner university.
