You are joining a network of motivated, talented and innovative students, professors, staff and alumni, who are working together to make a difference for our communities, our planet and our future.
Welcome to York, a community connected to what matters and where remarkable opportunities await you.
Resources to Access Your Potential
As a new student to York you will be matched to an upper-year student who has been trained as a peer mentor to assist you in making a successful transition to university life. Your mentor will be from your program and can help answer questions, give advice, and recommend services, supports and ways to get involved.
You will also have access to a network of peers through The Centre for Student Community & Leadership Development’s (SCLD) peer-to-peer programs and services that support: healthy living and well-being; opportunities to develop or enhance academic and leadership skills; community building and making meaningful connections. The Peer Leader Program offers support from upper-year students for honing learning skills, navigating Student Financial Services, career education and mental health and wellness. Peer leaders support students through all of these programs
Develop Your Leadership Skills
York is committed to helping you develop or enhance your leadership skills. Whether you get involved with the President’s Ambassador Program, the Student Leadership Program, student government, your college council or work part-time in the Leadership, Engagement and Ambassadorship Program (LEAP), you will find ways to increase your leadership capacity, community engagement and social impact.
My experiences in student leadership have allowed me to SHAPE MY CAREER PATH while gaining a unique perspective on university life. The York community has always made me feel supported and encouraged to reach my goals. Being a student leader has been a rewarding experience that provided me with the opportunity to learn more about the University beyond a typical student’s perspective. I encourage all students to get involved outside the classroom and take advantage of everything York has to offer.”
